How the Process of Documentation Works

At Reggio Emilia Early Learning Centres, we facilitate the documentation process with parents and carers in numerous ways. Daily reflections, which are emailed to you or uploaded to our app, outline the activities your child participates in and include photos of their unique experience. Similarly, educators complete a communication book for each child, outlining weekly and monthly highlights and the progress of projects. Within this book, parents or guardians can write comments to be included, demonstrating their engagement and partnership in their child’s learning journey. 

As well as recording them, the documentation process is also used to inform projects. Along with observations in the classroom, educators use documentation and correspondence with carers to identify a child’s specific passions and curiosities. These interests are used as the foundation of projects and ensure that children are fully engaged in their own progress. Additionally, we invite parents to attend information nights and join our Friday Connections program, a monthly, themed activity session encouraging family members to spend quality time with the children and be active participants in their learning. We often find that these sessions spark the children’s interests further, informing future projects.
