“Licence to Parent” -Launch Event a Great Success!

Is there a difference between talking to children and REALLY connecting with them?

With most parents rushing from one thing to the next, it’s easy to mistake one for the other. So, parents and educators helped to strengthen the connection at our ‘Licence to Parent’ event, held last Saturday, 14/07/2018 for our community at the Parramatta RSL Club.

This event follows on from our ‘Friday Connections’, which is held on the last Friday of every month.

This encourages parents, grandparents and extended families to come into the Centre and spend one-on-one time with their children.

This is achieved via a range of fun activities – spending quality time undistracted.

Parents attending were taken through a presentation that allowed them to begin to understand the difference between children and parent communication processes.

They were also able to establish their personal parenting style by discovering the key strengths that allow them to help their children to thrive.

One point that struck a chord with all parents was neurons that fire together wire together.

Another aspect was how to understand why children act out – their need to communicate something is hampered by their still-developing emotional intelligence and communication skills.

Children need a constant role model and that comes from consistency, role modelling, encouragement and rewards (as well as healthy pursuits such as sleep, diet and exercise).

Everyone who attended left feeling positive – and even more determined to regularly attend our ‘Friday Connections’ sessions.
